High Fiber Bars – Just Say No or Get in My Belly?

*Edited to add Kashi coupon link at bottom*

Get in my belly! Gnu bars are natural, chewy bars that offer 12 g of fiber per bar.

Here are some of their selling points:

  • One bar deliciously provides almost 50% of the Daily Value of Fiber
  • Promote natural regularity and digestive health, gently and effectively
  • Fiber helps lower cholesterol which is good for your heart
  • Fiber absorbs and helps eliminate toxins from your body
  • Fiber-rich foods aid in weight loss by making you feel fuller longer
  • Only 130 – 140 Calories (varies by flavor)

I’ve now tried the Banana Walnut, Chocolate Brownie, Orange Cranberry, and Peanut Butter flavors. The only one left to try is the Cinnamon Raisin flavor. I’m partial to anything peanut butter flavored, so, of course, that was my favorite flavor followed by the Banana Walnut. Now how good is a bar that has 12 g of fiber? Pretty darn good!  I generally am pretty indiscriminate when it comes to bar foods though….If it has a hint of sweetness, I’m usually satisfied.  But seriously, based on the stats of these bars alone, I’d say stuff them in your face even if you’re not too keen on their taste.  I mean, 12 g of fiber, wow!

You can buy Gnu Bars online via their site – I tried the 5-pack sampler for $9.95, including shipping.

If you choose one flavor, it’ll cost you $12.83 (inc. shipping) for 5 bars – that’s $2.57/bar (that’s STEEP!).

Amazon.com offers third-party selling options: for 16 bars, one flavor, $26.99 + $0.99 shipping = $27.98 or $1.75/bar
