I’ve Been Eating a Lot of Cake
These Lundberg organic brown rice cakes, that is. Muahah, fooled ya, didn’t I?! These little babies are so amazing. Gluten free, vegan, organic…

Only 70 calories each, no fat and 1 g of fiber, I just want to give them a big smooch. Even my boyfriend likes these little round food frisbees of delight and that’s sayin’ a lot. My favorite way to eat them?

With almond butter, of course! Yes, I have to measure the almond butter — that’s a half tablespoon. Not gonna lie…I love almond butter so much I’d eat the entire jar in one sitting if I weren’t careful. In fact, I love it so much I’d consider naming a future child “Almond” just to pay respect to that amazing creation. Child cruelty? I think not! Can you think of some of your fave foods that would be hilarious as children names?
Shhh, I always lick the spoon. I won’t tell if you won’t tell.
So, this is the 5th day of the challenge, how do I feel? I’m alright! It takes time to get over recently formed bad habits like midnight snacking and over-doing it here and there food-wise. And…I almost feel like I need to move away to some isolated island or something. It gets a tad frustrating because I really don’t like eating out, but I love socializing and most people like to socialize over food and I am just unwilling to put dubious foods in my mouth (which, frankly, is what I feel most restaurants serve…). Ok, I’ll stop complaining, but have you ever felt that way?
The good news is…my body is already responding in a positive way to how well I’ve been treating it lately.
Jen of Prior Fat Girl and I will be doing our weigh-in on Monday (yikes!) so make sure to check in then! Tomorrow: another secret weapon up my sleeve…this one really is my favorite and the best lookin’ one too!
Two blog entries I want to share with you guys:
- “Can You Exercise too Much?” I think we all know the answer, but sometimes we really gotta hear it! (Especially me right now, tryin’ to drop the 10!).
- Insightful entry on getting to the gym when you’re uncomfortable with your appearance. The article is written by Fat Bridesmaid guest blogging on MizFit’s site. I totally related to this piece. It took me over 5 years and 150 pounds to feel somewhat comfortable enough to go to the gym. That, my friends, is LAME. Lame that it took so long to get through the door and lame that I had to wait until I felt “socially acceptable” (or at least more so) to finally do it. Do not let fear of what others think of you prevent you from using every positive resource you have to accomplish your health and fitness goals! Do whatever it takes to get over it! Phone a friend while you’re walking in the door or, better yet, bring a friend! Don’t have a friend to call or bring? Bring a picture of a loved one, a pet, Edward Cullen, whomever or whatever it takes to give you the strength to get your ass through the gym door! (and I’m here! You can always contact me if you need a pep talk!). Ever felt “gym phobic”?
Start of Random: I put a new page up called “Feeding the Mind.” I have been pleasantly surprised at how many of you have expressed interest in my master’s program and what I’m reading, so I totally want to “lit talk” with you! I put up some of the books I’m currently reading and would love if you’d share your fave books or what you’re reading (or would like to read). Hey, we all know that mental and intellectual health are just as important as the physical! End of Random.
BROKEN RECORD ALERT: Did you join the health bandwagon yet? Don’t you want a chance to win Holey Donuts?!
Let me know by 11:59 p.m. TODAY, in the comments section, if you are on board with the “This Ain’t No Freshman 15, This is the Final 10″ Challenge! Tell me 1) what your health-related goal is, 2) how you plan to get there, 3) What you’re going to reward yourself with and 4) What charity you will donate $50 to if you do not reach your goal by 8/1/09.
Have a WONDERFUL Friday! The boyfriend turns 25 tomorrow, so tonight we’re celebrating like 12-year-olds! I’ll tell you all about it tomorrow! What are your plans for the weekend?

YES, I feel that way all the time. Why is it that every social occasion involves FOOD and DRINKING? I hate always having to say ‘no thank you’ but sometimes that’s just the way it is.
My weigh-in day is Saturday but I’ll check in on Monday.
I have a trail race this weekend – it’s called MudRun and we have to crawl through a mud pit at the end. Yes, I will be getting down & dirty.
Have a great weekend!
buahah how funny would that be to name your child *Almond* .. i would definitely name mine *chobani* ..that would be awful!
I think your complaint about restaurant food is totally legitimate! The amount of sodium (and butter and fat) is enough to make me crazy. Even when I order healthfully, I still worry. I much prefer a huge plate of broccoli and some kind of protein for dinner because then I know exactly what is going into my body.
Love your new page “Feeding the Mind.” I have decided that you never sleep because you seem to get so much done.
Have a great weekend.
I love rice cakes but had to stop eating them.. my tummy did not like them.. once I stopped, some of my issues calmed down so…. BUT, I hear ya & with almond or even PB on them (measured of course)….
I also read the post on MizFit… great post!
As for exercising too much, yes, people do but I think we are all individual. I do some heavy duty cardio & weight training AND eat well. I have to do all that to stay looking the way I want to look. If I did not want to look as lean or muscular, I could do less. I am 5’1″ and have been fighting the fat genes all my life so I think some people are going to have to do more WITHOUT over doing it & others less. I do 4 days of cardio at 70-85 minutes generally… and weights 4 days a week over 5 days of workouts. I eat very good too so.. I think people need to find what works for them & for some of us, unfortunately, we just have to do more. I should say also that I prefer to eat more than 1200-1400 calories a day so I am willing to work out more so I can eat more. Too many years of starving myself!!!
Me, I hope some R&R over the weekend with my hubby!
Love your blog!
My guy is helping me with my strength training. He knows about my goals, and I’ve recently asked him to help me get there. So we are motivating each other to eat healthy, and we’ve been working out together…him just using heavier weights. And I haven’t fired him as my trainer yet
Sushi with my girlfriend tonight! Yay. Plus fun errands like getting a smog check, ugh. Tomorrow I’m planning a 3-mile run and a walk with my dog, because on a less hectic weekend, I want to be as active as possible!
Have a good rest of your day!
