Challenge Update #7

It’s been seven weeks of the This Ain’t No Freshman 15, This is the Final 10 Challenge and that means it’s WEIGH-IN time!  Before you read my stats below, make sure to check out Jen, Prior Fat Girl’s, blog to see how she’s coming along!

Here we go:

  • Starting Weight: 138 lbs.
  • Last Weigh-In July 13: 131.2 lbs.
  • Today’s Weigh-In July 20: 129.2lbs.
  • Photobucket

  • Loss since last week:  2.00 lbs.
  • Total loss: 8.8 lbs.
  • Left to go: 1.2 lbs. by 8/1/09
  • Can I just add that I haven’t weighed in my 120s since I was like 11 or 12?…

Here are my daily exercise and calorie consumption stats from last week:

  • Monday — 2000 calories, one hour rollerblading
  • Tuesday — 1600 calories, 45-mins walk, ran 6 miles
  • Wednesday —1600 calories, one hour rollerblading, 30 minutes Turbo Kick Boxing (only 30 mins. b/c my 14-month niece was crying in the kid’s room!), 10-min run
  • Thursday — 1550 calories, ran 4 miles
  • Friday — 2000 calories, 1 hour rollerblading
  • Saturday – 2000 calories, ran 6.25 miles + does slaving in a kitchen from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. count as exercise? Why yes, yes of course it does!
  • Sunday – 2500 calories, rest day

So?

I’m happy about being a little over a pound away from being done with this challenge.  This challenge has been, well, a flippin’ challenge.  It’s been mentally and physically exhausting — so much so that I’m ready to escape to a deserted island, forget my academic and professional goals, wear a coconut bra and lay on the beach for the rest of my life.

I kid, I kid…’cept about the coconut bra…

I guess pushing myself outside of my comfort zone was the plan, weight loss was the goal, yadda yadda yadda. I’ve been up and down like a bobble-head convincing myself that all I want is to be “fit” and then contradicting myself by caring about the number on the scale.  I guess that’s bound to happen when you’re involved in a challenge where what counts IS the number on the scale (note to self — don’t do this again!).

Earlier this week, a couple days ago actually, I was ready to write you all and exclaim, “I’m free!  I have not binged or wanted to binge or had any emotional eating issues whatsoever!  Alert the media, I’m dropping everything, heading out on a book tour and joining Oprah on stage where we will wheel in a cart with lard in the amount of all the weight I’ve lost!”

Then I had a couple bouts of eating beyond being full and felt like I had been eating without being conscious of what I was eating.  Realizing I’ve still got work to do on fixing myself? Check!

Goals

Last week I had a goal to do more strength training.  Did that happen? Nope.  Am I lame? Yes. What’s the point in having a goal if it’s just empty promises and no follow-through.  I really don’t have much compassion for myself — no matter what’s going on — if I don’t follow through.  So this week, I better follow-through or I’m going to make myself do something really uncomfortable.  What do I find really uncomfortable?  Well that’s a long and way too personal list, but I promise you guys this – if I do not strength train at least three days this week for at least 30-minutes each day, you will get to post a truth or dare in the comments section next Monday and I will choose a random generated number and have to comply with that entry (if it’s not against the law or morally repugnant, of course)! Am I a silly 12-year-old or what?!

**Give away!**

Oh and I almost forgot!  How was the bridal shower/bachelorette party, you ask?!  Let’s just say I can’t provide pictures because they would be too incriminating, especially the picture I took of a rather indecent pinata.  Not going to go there!  My favorite part was probably what most people thought was the lamest and that was the bridal shower game where you write out your “recipe for a good marriage” to share with the bride-to-be.  It made me reflect on how what works for some of us, as individuals and couples, varies across the spectrum. In applying that to the purposes of this blog, what do you think goes into a recipe for a healthy lifestyle?  If a friend was about to enter the life-long journey of obtaining and maintaining her personal best health – what ingredients for success would you give her?

How was your weekend?

Have a wonderful Monday!

<3,

The Cranky (and sleepy) One

Well done on the loss! This may have been a hard challenge, but few people would have handled it as well as you have! I’m very impressed!

» Erin said: { Jul 20, 2009 - 06:07:11 }

Congrats on the 2 lb loss! That is amazing!

I know you’re pushing so hard, and your hard work is paying off. Go on with yo’ bad self :)

Nice job on your weight loss. And thanks for reminding us that a challenge is just that; if it’s a good one, it’s not nearly as fun at the end as it was at the beginning.

» Elina said: { Jul 20, 2009 - 06:07:26 }

Congrats on the weight loss. That’s amazing how far you’ve pushed yourself over 7 weeks, although I don’t envy you. I know it’s hard, mentally and physically, and I know you’re ready for it all to be over. Weighting in the 120′s is pretty cool though. I haven’t been there since high school.
Btw, did you notice that you ate more and lost more weight than usual? Looks like your body needs a little more fuel!
For the giveaway – my favorite way to eat fruit is either plain or in a huge bowl with yogurt and mixins. :)

» Elina said: { Jul 20, 2009 - 06:07:44 }

Oh and I already subscribe to your blog via Google Reader :)

OMG Annabel, I am totally jumping up and down for you! You are SO FREAKIN’ CLOSE!!! Way to push yourself out of a normal comfort zone!

Next time though, instead of a challenge like this, let’s just skip ahead to the island & coconut bra’s with fruity umbrella drinks in our hands. That sounds more enjoyable!

» sue said: { Jul 20, 2009 - 06:07:43 }

wow you are doing such an amazing job! congrats!

my favorite way to eat yogurt is mixed up with fruit.

Congrats on the big loss! Girl you are almost there! Keep up the great work! Sounds like a great Bachlorette party too! You should soooooooo post pics! :)

As for how I eat fruit, I eat it all ways as much as humanly possible! I could live off fruit… I like them raw, cooked, grilled, in salad, in yogurt, on dessert… :)

P.S. You’re already on my blogroll/reader

» Jenny said: { Jul 20, 2009 - 09:07:24 }

To be honest and make sure you’re happy!

You’re doing awesome. I love how you’re making so much progress and living it all up simultaneously.

» Harley said: { Jul 20, 2009 - 09:07:29 }

My favorite way is a toss-up between in oatmeal, with milk (cereal style, except without cereal), and fresh with peanut butter.

» Karen B. said: { Jul 20, 2009 - 10:07:06 }

My favorite way to eat fruit is in yogurt. My favorite is to buy vanilla yogurt and mix in fresh raspberries or blueberries with a small handful of walnuts. Best… treat… ever.

» Jenn@slim-shoppin said: { Jul 20, 2009 - 10:07:04 }

Yeah to the scale being in the 120′s!!!! That’s phenomenal!!

AND, awesome job at exercising! I got a few new work out DVD’s from the library yesterday, so that will be in my future this week!

And, a recipe for a healthy lifestyle for me is speaking up! For the longest time I wanted to stay on the path, but was led away by peer pressure, old habits that were easy, giving in to temptations. But now, I am in control. If I am out and someone wants to share an unhealthy appetizer, I tell them, I am having soup instead, or if someone offers me food at work, I politely say no thank you. Or, if its a busy week and my hubby just wants to order pizza, I figure out a way around it, and have quick ingredients on hand for a dinner that is faster than ordering pizza!

Great job!

» lora said: { Jul 20, 2009 - 11:07:46 }

i love fruit with any kind of nut butter! yummm!

» Jody - Fit at 51 said: { Jul 20, 2009 - 11:07:20 }

CONGRATS!!!!! You are so close!!!! I bet you do that strength training just so you don’t have to face truth or dare! A good way to get yourself to commit to that! :-)

My recipe for a healthy lifestyle: CONSISTENCY & FIND A FOOD & EXERCISE PROGRAM THAT WORKS FOR YOU FOR LIFE. That program may change along the way but the key is that you can live with it long term & that consistency!

Give Away:

Best way to eat fruit… real whole fruit… like an apple & not apple juice or an orange & not orange juice. That is the way I like it! I will put it in a protein shake too!

I will mention this give away on my blog tomorrow!

THX!

» Lauren @ Team Giles said: { Jul 20, 2009 - 12:07:08 }

I am so overly beyond proud of you!! you’re in the 120′s! YEA! You’re rockin’ this challenge like CRAZY!!!

I like my fruit pretty simple and by its self, in less I add it with granola & yogurt, YUM!

» Christin said: { Jul 20, 2009 - 12:07:41 }

I pretty much like fruit by itself. Berries are my fav in yogurt. Apples, pears and naners I love in oatmeal!!

» Quix said: { Jul 20, 2009 - 04:07:08 }

OMG you are sooo close, that’s great! I’ve done “challenges” of sorts on spark and I think when I get upset its not so much that I’m disappointed with my weight or weight loss – I am just competitive and I want to win/accomplish my goals, and maybe that’s more of what’s going on here. :)

Strength training is a good habit – at first I actually had to schedule myself to do it to make sure. I’d block out 30 minutes of my day, and I could do only weights. If you track calories burnt, track it as circuit training and it doesn’t seem as futile.

Thanks again for advice on my conundrum last week! And…um, I like most fruit just fresh. Though most is also DIVINE frozen. A bowl of frozen pineapple/mango/other tropical fruit mix, grapes, etc, is just as good for me most days as ice cream!

» Mindie said: { Jul 20, 2009 - 05:07:33 }

I just found your blog today and I love it! Thanks for the inspiration! I added your blog to my rss feed and I look forward to reading your updates. A bowl of fresh raspberries is the best thing ever!

» PTG1002 said: { Jul 20, 2009 - 07:07:02 }

Wahoooooooo on the two pound loss – that is absolutely awesome!! Great freakin’ job!

My favorite way to eat fruit – any way possible!! LOL I’ve been putting strawberries and blueberries on my spinach salads lately, eating fruit as dessert, in my spinach smoothies, etc.

And you’re already on my blogroll. :o )

As for healthy lifestyle…I was thinking about it earlier, and really – if it’s easy (the food, the choice, etc) then that means it’s probably wrong. Haha!

» Tamara said: { Jul 20, 2009 - 07:07:35 }

congratulations Bellie, you look amazing and I’m proud of you!!!

» Tamara said: { Jul 21, 2009 - 07:07:59 }

Oh and I absolutely love fruit fresh. Watermelon, blueberries, mango, papaya, nectarines, peaches and bananas are some of my fav’s.

Recently, I’ve been adding them to my oatmeal in the morning. Soooo good!

» Yum Yucky said: { Jul 21, 2009 - 07:07:44 }

rollerblading burns that much!? I better stop laughing at the bald guy with the tight shorts and headband that blades around the neighborhood. Him? Cool. Me? NOT!

» lee (getting fit) said: { Jul 21, 2009 - 08:07:35 }

I like to smother nonfat FAGE Greek yogurt with fresh fruit. Yesterday it was organic blueberries & nectarine.

Congrats on reaching 129!!!!! I wouldn’t mind seeing that on my scale.

“…what do you think goes into a recipe for a healthy lifestyle? If a friend was about to enter the life-long journey of obtaining and maintaining her personal best health – what ingredients for success would you give her?”

I like this question a lot. Will be pondering…

» FabulousFitnessLA said: { Jul 21, 2009 - 12:07:31 }

My favorite way to eat fruit is freshly washed and straight out of the fridge so it’s nice a cold! I love it in my yogurt every morning. YUM!

You are doing great in your challenge. Every day is a challenge and you are on track. Weight lifting is one of those things that makes you feel strong and empowered. I love it.
Fruit, oh how I love thee! By itself, in yogurt, salads. Anywhere, anytime.

» Lori said: { Jul 21, 2009 - 06:07:06 }

I added you to my google reader. Congrats on getting so close to goal!

I love my fruit straight up. My husband commented yesterday that I should get a second job just to support my fruit habit :D

Fresh is my favorite way to eat fruit. Melons just cut, grapes cooled in the fridge, berries straight from the carton. Mixing them all into a smoothie is my second favorite way!
