I’ll Flash You Any Day!

Hmm I think I meant “flash by you any day,” but saying I’d “flash you” is just plain fun (but so *not* true!)!

If you’ve seen my recent challenge updates, I’ve been rollerblading… a lot…

How does an avid runner who usually shuns other versions of cardio as “frou frou” bring herself to rollerblade?

Umm…it’s super fun, duh!

Why I Love Rollerblading

  • It makes me feel like I’m 10 again or like some 70s disco skater
  • I get to whiz by all the runners who are huffin’ and puffin’ their little hearts out.  “See ya later!” I shout while flashing a devious grin (ok, so I don’t really do that, but it sounds like fun)
  • It’s easy on my knees.  All the running I do means my little knees need a little break here and there.
  • I feel like a tourist.  I blade at the beach w/ the boyf who rides his beach cruiser.  We get to see our beautiful beach city and the little restaurants and shops that we take for granted having lived here for so long.
  • I avoid cat callers.  You know when you’re running on the beach and, though you feel like youre hauling a**, you’re certainly not running fast enough to avoid gawkers and pervs?  Well I’m just a blur to you now, pervs!
  • I get really odd tan lines that I find rather funny (and a good conversation piece).   Am I the only one who finds that humorous?
  • It actually burns calories!  Based on my weight, an hour of moderate rollerblading burns 410 calories says this site.  It’s definitely less than an hour of running, but definitely more than an hour of yoga (and more than that Hip Hop Hustle class where I just giggled and looked for the bartender).

Give-Away Round-Up

  • It’s not too late to enter my give-away for Crispy Green freeze-dried fruit packs here.
  • Twirlit is giving away some gorgeous bags here.  I’m all over it!
  • Soap and Chocolate is giving away Holey Donuts here. Ends tonight!
  • Fruit.Veggies.Life. is giving way loads of loot including energy bars here.
  • Hop, Skip & a Giant Leap is giving away Amazing Grass here.

Did You See?

  • Hungry Girl in the LA Times here and our own bloggie Danica is quoted!
  • That’s Fit post on top 5 most “eco-friendly” energy bars here. They put Amazing Grass’s “Chocolate Whole Foods” bar on the bottom of the list due to taste!  Do you agree?

Any of you guys rollerblading this summer?  Doing any less “conventional” forms of exercise?  Experiencing pervs at the beach while running?

Happy Wednesday!

I don’t think that’s something I’m ever likely to try… But I admire people who zip by on those little wheels!

The top 5 bars mysteriously omitted Hammer Nutrition, which is the best by far for getting even energy during rides. Moreover, they are not chalk full of simple carbs and complex proteins that wreak havoc on your body when you are working hard. (Simple sugars give sugars highs, followed by lows, and proteins are really tough for me to handle when my heart rate is beating at 165 beats a minute — the make me want to throw up).

I am going rollerblading tomorrow night with a friend for the first time this season. The first few times out are always the hardest for me, as my poor calf muscles cramp up! I need to be committed this year, though, because if I rollerblade in the summer and ski in the winter, I won’t have as much of an adjustment to each!

I run mostly, and I do circuit training at the gym. The pervs at the beach are always there, but what I’ve experienced a TON of this year is random people throwing out words of encouragement as I jog by. That’s fun!

I don’t know about rollerblading but I’ve been thinking about old school roller skates lately. I literally bit the dust rollerblading once — weeds stuck in the blades and a shoulder injury that took about a year to heal. I know how to stop with old school skates & I’ve learned that’s something to consider.

OMG…I used to rollerblade ALL the time. It is SO much fun and I agree…you can get away a lot quicker from the weirdos when you’re out on the trails. The first time out I went with my friend Dawn, we took the Santa Ana bike trail and we kept going and going and found ourselves at the Angels baseball stadium (that’s from Yorba Linda.) Of course I took a few dives going down the hills so remember to wear ALL the gear! You don’t want to end up on your keester…believe me…been there, done that!

It is truly fun to try all different kinds of cardio, and I agree….we notice so much more when we take time to really “look” at our surroundings.

May the blades be with you!
