A Winner, The News & a Hot Dog
TGIF guys and gals!
First things first — who won the Crispy Green give-away?!
![]()
That would be Lori from Finding Radiance! Congrats, Lori!
If you want to learn more about Crispy Green’s freeze-dried fruit — check out the site here. I am really happy with this product because it’s real, portion-controlled fruit without preservatives and it has a ton of uses (I usually grab on the go, but you can add to your oatmeal or cereal, etc.).
In the News — Interesting Articles This Week
In case you missed these articles this week, check ‘em out and let me know what you think!
- Article titled, “Unhealthy Appetite: Is ‘Fatsploitation’ Fuelling the Obesity Crisis?” in The Independent asks whether the preponderance of reality t.v. shows featuring obese people helps exacerbate or ameliorate the “obesity problem.” To me that’s a loaded question full of presumptions I already don’t agree with. But I’ll save my spiel for another post. See Big Fat Deal’s response to this article here. Do you guys see shows like “Drop Dead Diva” as fueling the “obesity crisis” and feeding into stereotypes about overweight people? I’ll also ask, if we do feel the plus-sized protagonist unfairly stereotypes overweight people, what does the dumb, shallow, thin, blonde chick represent?
- Article titled, “Thinner Wallets, Fatter Bellies” in The Boston Globe discusses how the economy may be affecting our waistlines and how this challenge may be turned into an opportunity. Has the economy affected your waist? I want to know!
- Article titled, “XXXL: Why are Americans Fat” in The New Yorker discusses books in obesity and health studies to address why Americans are at a historic “obesity high” (my term), including books using an evolutionary and social perspective. I highly recommend this article if you want to get a snippet of the great books out there right now addressing these topics.

Plans for the weekend? I’m going to wrap up some writing and reading projects, work out (duh, right?) and we’ll see what else. Nothing spectacular planned! What about you guys?
I leave you guys with this adorable pup — my boyf’s lil Boston Terrier enjoying a ride in the beach cruiser

congrats to the winnah – though i’m slightly bitter
happy friday Annabel!
Awh, this pic of the dog is way too cute. Poor guy with his face stuck in a frown!
I read that article about why we are so fat (not just Americans). I believe that the obesity problem will not be solved until the food industry is reigned in. They tinker with food to make us want more, bombard us with advertising and then we’re supposed to say no thank you?
I will say when I saw the commercials for Drop Dead Diva, I was a little offended by the fact that this beautiful woman somehow tranforms into another woman and how “horrified” that she was trapped in a fat body! I thought the woman portraying the “overweight” character was actually very pretty. And for that reason, I probably won’t watch the show. However, the show where overweight people do a “dancing with the stars” type show is a different story because I think those people are doing it because they want to lose weight. AND I love the Biggest Loser for the same thing, its people just trying to figure out how to lose weight.
Thanks for stopping by my blog today!
I won?!?!?! I am so excited!! I love fruit LOL!
I’m so sick and tired of people bashing Drop Dead Diva when they haven’t even watched the show. It’s a funny, inspiring, uplifting, entertaining show that does not encourage obesity. Please folks, watch the show and then judge!
I’ve got to watch that show, “Drop dead diva”.
You know, no one ever wants to be “plus-sized” they just don’t. They make make a living from it {model, acting, etc} but they never want to truly be “large”. I think people try to make being “large” something that’s “normal”. But really, is it normal that there’s fat squeezing your lungs, heart and other organs? I mean really, is it normal to be in your 20′s, obese and on a TON of medicine? {see biggest loser for that one}, it’s NOT NOMAL. It’s time to make a healthy change, not just a “it’s ok to be huge and inside you’re killing yourself”. It’s just not ok.
ok there’s my rant, it probably doesn’t make since, but I’m hyped-up on green tea and about to attempt my first spin class
wish me luck!
OK, lots of links so will have to get back to them & read them. Right now, I have let too many things go at home… this blog stuff is keeping my home dirty!!!
I don’t have a laptop or blackberry!
Loved the dog pic too.. cute!
Me, this weekend, like my post for today says, a BEcation! I will be vegging out some of it, doing my normal Sunday jog & core work & just trying to find cool air. We have no air conditioning & this house is too HOT!
Have a good one!
I love da puppy!
Congrats to the winner, and I have noticed quite a few shows that are centered around fuller figured people “Dance your Ass off” ( a mix of so you think you can dance and biggest loser) ,”More to Love” (which is supposed to be similar to the bachelor) and I really don’t have an opinion of it I don’t know if it is doing more good or harm.
I am glad I ran across your blog today and will definitely be following.
I have a Mix1 giveaway ending tonight if you are interested.

i had copied and pasted your link into my google reader and forgot to copy my giveaway link.
Alright, so I watched “Drop Dead Diva” tonight and I do like the fact that the main character is smart, kind, and happens to be overweight. I don’t like the emphasis on the shallow soul of the “skinny pretty” girl. To me, it was about what I expected for Oxygen.
