Healthy Snacks a la Cranky One
Updated
Hi guys! Happy day-before-Friday!
Here is my second “quick tip” video on the topic of my favorite healthy snacks:
URL here, too. To see my first “quick tip,” click here.
Random tidbit about one of my snack faves — did you know one large kiwi packs 3 grams of fiber? The medium ones I show in the video pack 2 grams each. That’s quite a lot of fiber for the size, seriously.

- Cranky Fitness’, “Ethnic Eats: How Healthy Are They” (8/12/09) here – Loved this post and reach out to you guys to answer how you manage to lighten up your favorite ethnic dishes (or do you?), what are some of your fave ethnic dishes? Have any recipes to share with me?
- Hanlie’s guest post, “Your Body’s Design” (8/12/09) here — Hanlie is a blogger I follow and admire and she writes here why she believes we are designed to be herbivores. Very interesting post with tons of food for thought! While I am a vegetarian myself, I am not 100% convinced that humans were meant to be so. I think that as fruits and veggies are now accessible to us from across the world during all seasons, and as we’ve evolved ethically (yes, I don’t necessarily believe we were innately against killing animals for food), vegetarianism is now a practical and healthy choice. But I don’t think it’s the only healthy choice. What do you guys think?
- Live Science’s, “High Fat Diets May Make You Stupid and Lazy” (8/12/09) here — Interesting summary of a study: “A new study on rats finds that 10 days of eating a high-fat diet caused short-term memory loss and made exercise difficult” but lacking way too much information and making far too many presumptuous statements (such as exercise being made “difficult” some how translates to laziness?). I would guess by “high fat” they meant bad, saturated fats, but they don’t say (which is unfortunate because this may just fuel the misconception that all fats are bad for you).

i need to get to costco, looks like they carry good stuff now! my favorite snack is apples, carrots…or anything with peanut butter.
Aside from natural snacks like cheese, fruit, and veggies, I like popcorn. If I don’t want to make some, I like the new Frito Lay smartfood popcorn clusters.
One of my favorite snacks of late is dates with nut butter. I just love the combination of sweet/salty/chewy/creamy all in one bite!
Yum hummus is such a healthy and tasty snack!!
girl carrots and celery is a classic..and i have got to hit up costco asap — that hummus sounds awesome — and i am currently eating an western bagel company alternative bagel — we are foodie sisters, i swear!
p.s. you? annoying? don’t make me laugh.. adorable and hilarious is way more appropriate!
Kiwis are one of my very most favorite fruits! It’s just a wonderful added bonus they are so good for you!
I love PB so anytime I can manage it into a snack, I do. Lately, I’ve been spreading PB on a ww pita and topped with raisins. My last post was about snacking too, and I included a pic of my PB & Raisin pita.
I love your video posts. I have to get my hubby to help me with that since I am not the best writer!!
I LOVE TJ’s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They have so much to offer!!!! I bought my not so health lover hubby that popcorn & he loves it! I also like these Zen cranberry oatmeal cookies they have. They are a bit pricey but I eat half at a time & not every day so they last me! Plus, they have good ingredients, 200 calories & 3g of fat each which means half of that for me.. Well, if you can stick to half cause they are so good!! Hey, not even that bad for a whole one.. maybe breakfast!!!
Anyway, like you, I am not into the 100 calorie packs & never have been. I rather pick my own snacks or mini meals as I call them & go with that. Better results for me than the processed & packaged foods… although I do understand that very busy people sometimes need this & if it is a person that just has trouble stopping after 1 portion.. although they could end up eating multiple portion packs & you pay more money for them.
Oh crap, I must stop.. blabbing on!
Good post on snack options!
Love banana and peanut butter – and I add a dab of melted chocolate, just so I don’t miss out on being sinful, lol!
My favorite snack is banana dipped in tahini. It hits all the right spots!
Thanks for the link!
love your video posts
i bought those tribe packs at costco but they hurt my tongue unfortunately, so they are sitting in the fridge! western bagel alternative breads are GREAT! my costco doesnt sell them.. you are lucky! i buy the pitas and bagels all the time. awe, wish i had a TJs. i do love greek yogurt though! my favorite snacks include greek yogurt with fresh fruit or apple w/ almond butter. also waasa crackers with cottage cheese.
Yeah, I totally started out on the 100 calorie packs but graduated to much better food. My fiance still likes them so we keep some around for treats but I’d much rather have 100 calories of real food. For snacks, I love just veggies and lowfat dressing, snap peas, beef jerky, turkey pepperoni, almond accents, pop chips, pistacios, or a graham cracker with better n peanut butter.
I’ll have to look for those hummus snack packs and those pitas – those look awesome!
One of my followers recommended your blog…you have achieved so much and look fabulous! You should be so proud of yourself!
Fav snacks: dates w/peanut butter, yogurt w/a granola or cereal topping, cereal is a great snack, hardboiled eggs, popsicles… etc etc.
