How to Survive Being a Student

Taking a study break to give my…

Top Three Ways to Survive Being a Student

  • Study. There’s no way around this when you’re in grad seminars of 10 people and 50% of your grade is participating with some of the most brilliant and intimidating people you’ve ever met.
  • Photobucket
What my bed currently looks like.

  • Picking a sleep deprivation tool.
    Photobucket
That’s mugs of coffee in a cheesy love mug.  No pretty way around it, there are only 24 hours in a day and over 500 pages of reading a week…for one class alone…
  • Commiserate. Whether via g-chat, e-mail, phone, study dates or message in a bottle, finding a fellow peer to bitch and moan with is priceless.  Thanks friends.

I’ll be checking in tomorrow with my September goal update and a bit of a weekend recap!  What are you guys doing tomorrow?

In the News

  • Calorie Lab‘s, “Notes from the UK: More kids on diet pills, junk food breakfasts and recession eats” (9/4/09) here
  • Science Daily‘s, “Organic Or Local Fruits and Vegetables?” (9/4/09) here
  • Science Daily‘s, “Large Thighs Protect Against Heart Disease And Early Death” (9/5/09) here — Finally I can feel there’s a benefit to my extra chub!  Apparently if your thighs are smaller than 60 cm circumference-wise, you are at higher risk for heart disease and early death.  Sounds like total B-S, right? Right! But I still…don’t laugh…felt mighty compelled to measure my thighs!  Oh crap!  I only reach 52 centimeters at my fullest. Guess I better reach for the Ben ‘N Jerry’s to rectify this health hazard!
  • Calorie Lab‘s, “Beware of Trans Fat Traps” (9/5/09) here
  • Science Daily‘s, “Health Experts Offer Action Steps Local Governments Can Use To Cut Childhood Obesity Rates” (9/6/09) here
  • Science Daily‘s,”Greening University Classrooms: Adding Plants Increases Student Satisfaction” (9/6/09) here — Who wants to be that ass of a student who e-mails a link of this to her professors so they can be sure to stock up on greenery with their 10% slashed salaries, mandatory furlough days and severe drop in morale?

Give-Away Round Up

So I was kind of looking forward to getting back in to the swing of school work until I just got an email from my prof. saying we have to read beowulf cover to cover by our first class on Tues. for a quiz. FML fo’ real.

As a fellow grad student, your post could not be more on point!
I feel your pain. Part of dealing with all of it is having someone to whine too. Lucky for me my bf is also a grad student so we spend hours between class, teaching, & studying just whining about assignments, lack of free time, and professors..lol
Good luck with everything
