Cloudy with a Chance of Criticism?

Hey guys! Back to the grind tomorrow :/ Have you seen a preview for Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs — the new 3-d animation movie coming out based on the book of the same title?
Photobucket
When I saw the preview, I was sitting next to my boyfriend and I started “mmm”-ing and “ooo”-ing and exclaimed, “Oh my goodness, I want to move there!” and I started dreaming up all the foods I’d want it to rain as long as I could stay safe, of course, instead of being staked by a giant celery stick or something. (Yes, I am aware I have “issues”).

Just throwing this out there, but does anyone think there’s going to be any backlash in the health-blogging sphere about this flick? I can just imagine we’ll hear all sorts of things about how this movie either promotes food obsession, cibophobia (fear of food), or junk food obsession.  I haven’t read the book or seen more than the movie trailer, but I’m getting a little gut feeling that’s predicting this movie is going to stir up some strong sentiments.

From Wikipedia: “The book is about two children who listen to their Grandpa Henry tell the story of the town of Chewandswallow, where the weather comes three times a day, at breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and is always food and beverages. The rain is juice and soup, the snow is mashed potatoes, and the wind brings hamburgers. However, floods and storms of food come – creating dilemmas such as the school getting smothered beneath a giant pancake (forcing it to close), a tomato sauce tornado, and giant meatballs crushing the town. The townsfolk then build sailboats out of huge pieces of bread. They sail to a new place and grow accustomed to buying food in stores.”

So I guess the movie is going to be different than the book because in the movie a scientist creates the food-based weather — it’s not a naturally occurring phenomena.  Based on the above, it sounds like the book was written by food producers of America LOL.  You have to go out and buy your food children, or a giant pancake might fall from the sky and kill you! (ok I am having waaay too much fun with this.  Can you tell I’m procrastinating from doing my homework?!).

I would loooove to hear your predictions on how this movie will be received!  What do you think about it based on what I’ve written (or on what you already know of it)? Have you seen any of the merchandise out on this movie? Just curious if it will focus on the science dude or if it will be actual food items…

See the movie trailer here.

Stay tuned tomorrow for the first compilation post of all of your beautiful responses to who and what motivates you!

This should not come as a surprise, but I think this movie’s aim is to reinforce poor food choices in kids. But that’s just me…

I hope this movie is well-received as a fun and whimsicle story..at least that’s how I’ll perceive it when I watch it.. because I will be watching it :)

I LOVED this book when I was a kid. When I first heard it was going to be made into a movie I had no idea how they would stretch it out… I think it will be nothing like the book, but still totally fun :) As for healthy bloggers (who me) I’m sure there will be ones up in arms LOL but come on now, it’s a kids movie, all in good fun! If nothing else maybe it can open the conversation with kids about overeating… LOL yeah right! :D It’s a movie, watch it and have fun :D
