The Best Environment for Your Purpose

Amended w/ Give-Away Round Up

Hey guys!  This is me at the Starbucks in my school’s library reading A Hazard of New Fortunes, which I’m actually enjoying (at least much more so than James’ Bostonians):

Photobucket

Don’t I look so enthused to be studying?  At least I have great company!  She’s sitting over there —-> and she brought us some snacks, including portioned trail mix and crackers with Laughing Cow cheese wedges!

I usually study within the actual library, like amongst the books as a true scholar would *giggles*, but there were no tables open today!  So, studying at Starbucks is the fall-back plan.  I don’t usually study at coffee shops because usually the music they play annoys the crap out of me.  Sorry to all your Norah Jones fans, but “Come Away with Me” makes me want to get as far away as possible (tee-hee).  Today, though, I am – shockingly – not too cranky and am finding this is a great choice for studying!  The music is ambient enough that I do not get distracted, I can get coffee every 5 seconds when I need it, and there’s free wifi here!

It makes me think — we all have preferred environments for a lot of the things we have to do in life.  I have a preferred environment for studying and a preferred environment for working out.  I cannot stand when the gym is packed and cannot work-out without an iPod.  I cannot study if in complete silence or on a bed — both allow me to fall asleep, which in my perennial narcoleptic state, is no bueno!  I am also sure to pack enough snacks of my own, including almonds, cranberries and my new love, Trader Joe’s lite kettle corn. Why do I pack like I’m going on a month-long backpacking trip throughout Europe?

What is your preferred work-out environment?  What about study environment? Work environment? Do you mind the music they play at coffee houses?  What are your fave portable snacks?

Ok, I have to get back to work — I’m majorly behind and screwed right now :/

I love, love, love outdoors for working out! And I do my weight training most comfortably in my room (no gym membership). The right environment will yield the best results! :D

I like my gym early in the morning because there are very few people there. I have my headphones because I hate the music they play.

I haven’t studied in a while, but libraries are good or a quite couch at home.

My work environment must be quiet since I do transcription. I have to hear and concentrate!

Maybe I just like quiet in everything LOL!

For my working environment, it’s kind of wierd I guess, but I can’t stick to the same working environment for more than 2-3 weeks. If I do that, I get bored of the same things on the wall, the same sounds, the same people, etc.

I like to keep things fresh baby!

Good luck with the studying! I used to hate studying in the library for some reason. I’d rather study in my home office. As far as working out, I’ll do it anywhere, but prefer running outdoors.

I always need quiet to read, or else I won’t understand what I am reading. I could never study in the library, though. In law school, I studied at home on my bed. And I wrote many papers for law school in bed using my laptop–although I did write my law review note at a desk because there were too many papers and articles I was using. Also I studied for the Bar Exam almost exclusively sitting on my bed.

As far as working out, I used to like working out at home alone with my own weights and stationary bicycle. I will no longer be able to use a bike so I now need to use the gym. But I prefer being alone at home.

My prefered workout environment- Hands down, outside.
My (back in the day) prefered study environment- Depended on my mood and the level of distractablility I was in. Either way, I loved laying on my belly while studying… no, never put me to sleep. Some of my favorite places were the park or beach (when I lived in WA), school library, and home on the couch.
Work environment- lordy! Umm…. Any where in which I can do my thing without dealing with a ton of people telling me no, do it this way. I loved my job I was at before I became a SAHM because although i had a boss… I was practically my own boss in his eyes. :) I’ll never find anything like that one again. hahahahaa!!
Coffee house music… i don’t usually spend time in them unless I’m catching up with a friend and in those cases, I don’t pay any attention to what’s being played. :)

I have to say that a workout without my iPod is no workout at all (and I mean it because I will literally leave the gym). Other then that I prefer classes that are challenging like boxing which makes me like one tough chick! I bit of a butt kick while kicking butt goes a long way for me :)

I actually like silence – I find it much less distracting. The only time I listen to music is when I’m driving on my own, cleaning the house or getting ready to go out. And of course working out – I have to have music for that!
