No Longer a Green Monster Virgin
Hey guys! My head is lifted briefly out of the swamp I’m swimming in (hmm why did I decide to go after my masters?), so it’s fitting that I decided to try my first Green Monster:
I used the “Virgin Green Monster” recipe listed here and opted for 1 cup of sweetened almond milk and no flax. So, all in all:
- 2 cups organic Trader Joes’ spinach — 14 calories, 0.2 g fat, 1.3 g fiber, 1.7 g protein
- 1 cup Pacific Organic Almond Milk, Low Fat Original — 60 calories, 2.5 g fat, 0 fiber, 1 g protein
- 1 large banana – 121 calories, 0.4 g fat, 3.5 fiber, 1.5 g protein
- Ice
- Total nutritional value: 195 calories, 3.1 g fat, 4.8 g fiber, 4.2 g protein
Survey says: Delicious. The more sips I had, the more I was kicking myself for not having tried these things sooner! I’m serious – I have no stake in these so if they sucked I’d tell ya. They taste like a banana smoothie — no hint of spinach.
Can you recommend your favorite green monster recipe?

Yay for jumping on the GM bandwagon. Try adding some Amazing Grass and PB to it.
They are tasty, aren’t they? I love frozen tropical fruit with a bit of honey. I also like doing one with pumpkin and vanilla protein powder, honey milk and ice. The color of that one is a little funky with the orange and green, but it’s tasty!
Such a cute video! Love your hair and your voice! And I still think you were right to go for your master’s. You will be so thankful in the end with all that knowledge!
I might have to try this eventually based on this post! Cute video!
Ok, I hate bananas but I’ll have to give it a try with some tropical fruit or somethin’.
Thanks for sharing your first sip with us!
HOORAY for giving away your GM virginity! yum. love your vids, you are tres cute.
It’s offishhh .. I’m the only GM virgin in the blogosphere. I may have to give in to the peer pressureeeee
ha – I had the same experience and thoughts before and after I tried my first green monster. My FAVORITE combo is the one you picked. If you freeze your banana it makes it like a banana milk shake – YUM! Sometimes I add a little vanilla extract too!
I love frozen bananas in mine, along with sometimes an apple, celery, cucumber, chia seeds with the spinach. I also use coconut milk or almond milk. Yum! Tried one with kale – failed, to bitter. but maybe some agave would have helped that one. Just keep experimenting and you’ll find some great combinations!
