Ode to My Twin

Dear Chris

On our 26th birthday, I wanted to take the time to acknowledge how much I love you and how truly fortunate I feel to have had a partner to traverse the world with, from the womb ’til now.  You’ve always been the comic relief to my melodramatic manner, the one who showed me that laughter really is the best medicine — even if it’s at my expense.  You’ve always trusted my opinions and taken big leaps with me.  You’ve also led the way when we came to a fork in the road and finally decided to choose the path to health.

Here are some reminders of how you’ve spent your time outside the womb:

You’ve spent a lot of time sleeping…
on the couch with mom

or on my lap on long car rides.  I always did feel oddly maternal towards you — granted you’re two minutes older…

You’ve spent a lot of time playing sports — your first love…

Your second was tormenting me…

It’s ok, I forgive you

You’ve always had a unique sense of style…

who am I kidding, we both have!

We’ve spent plenty of time playing in tents

and playing in boxes

but we’ve also spent a lot of time reflecting in nature like Thoreau would have it

Those were my favorite times.

Through thick

and thin

I love you, twin!

I can’t tell you how meaningful it is to have someone in my life who understands the “how” and “why.”  We’ve literally taken first steps together and interpreted the world together.  From Vegas trips to Aladdin movie nights, hospital visits and countless bike rides, thank you Chrissy, for being my extra pair of eyes and the other half to my heart.

…even if you did steal all the food in the womb…;)
