Why Oh Why Do I Need to Exercise?
Once upon a time, in a land far far away, there lived a cranky princess A few months ago, the cranky one sat on her bed and admonished herself for not exercising. Hmm that was in November, was it? Fast forward to today, in flippin freakin February, and I’m just barely taking those little baby steps to get back in the saddle of my gimpy little donkey of a steed (I never said my metaphors worked, or that I was a poet
. So, I told you guys here that I was going to start exercising 5 hours a week and post updates on Mondays as part of my Unlent Challenge (failed on the Monday post, eh? Moving on…). Well, seeing as I’m a little mentally challenged, I began the challenge on a Friday and gave the reporting day of Monday, not realizing I’d have to complete 5 hours of exercise from Fri – Sun to go along with it. Ummm I’m determined, but not superwoman (I wish!). Here’s what I was able to fit in from Fri to Sun:
Fri.: Jillian Michaels – 30 Day Shred

This was my first time doing a complete episode (before I had just played around with a snippet on YouTube). Look, people, I’ve seen so many of you mention this was too easy for you and that you did all levels in one sitting. You’re freakin’ crazy. My ass was dying on LEVEL ONE *hangs head in shame* You know how they say if you don’t use it, you lose it? Well my muscles went through atrophy and died off, let’s face it. So far, I love this work-out. Forget that Jillian is a hypocrite and meanie yadda yadda yadda, I prefer her “no-bs” personality to those fitness gals who wear spandex unitards and sing praises at the t.v. Plus, this is a 20-minute work-out meant to kick your butt in record time. It truly makes me feel like a jerk to myself if I won’t even allow 20 minutes for a work-out, so I do it. Yay! After Jillian tortured my weak-butt, I did additional strength moves and mat-work for 10 minutes. Total work-out: 30 minutes.
Sat.: Turbo Kick Boxing at my gym. (Remember my first TKB experience here?), ran for 25 minutes & did Jillian Michaels – 30 Day Shred again. I have another confession — running is just not as easy for me as it used to be! I was tired and just not feeling it the entire time. Somebody tell me it’s because I was still recovering from the flu and not that I’ve lost my running mojo!!! Total work-out: 1 hour & 45 minutes
Sun.: Jillian Michaels – 30 Day Shred — Total work-out: 20 minutes
In three days I did a total of 2 hours and 35 minutes. Kinda lame, but I’ll take it! Next Monday I hope to show that in a week I was able to complete my 5 hour goal! So, I’ve brought in reinforcements:

Remember that damn giant calendar I used when I was doing my 10-pound challenge? Well, it’s back! I won’t be tracking calories on this thing like I used to, but I will be marking my activity. Maybe I should buy some cute little stickers and do that thing elementary school teachers do where they reward you with stickers and punish you by writing your name on the board?

Yes, I do have a chalk board and while I usually use it to leave obscene poetry for the boyf, I think I could put it to better use! ![]()
And, just so I don’t feel alone in my exercise challenge, I take solace in the fact that Michelle Obama’s making a big deal about exercise, too. See here, too.
Are you making a big deal about exercise (have you always?)? What do you think about Jillian Michaels’ Shred? About Michelle Obama’s plan?

I love the idea of a reward sticker chart – I want one too! My running has gone totally rubbish lately too, I’ve decided not to stress about it and do other stuff instead, I have to start training for my next half marathon soon so I’ll have plenty of running to worry about then. In the meantime there’s just these 10kg to shift …..!
It takes me about 2 weeks after being sick to really start running properly again. If you keep it up though, you’ll be back to your old speedy self in no time.
I always have to keep goals and plans for workouts or I get lazy. And you don’t like me when I’m lazy (lol). I think the shred was awesome – however, after doing it every day for 4 weeks I was injured. So I think it’s great to sub in for a quick workout when I don’t have an hour and still want my butt kicked, but I don’t think it’s good to do it consecutive days.
Good luck with the ass kicking workouts this week!
Love the idea of stickers!!! You should totally do that!!
I am right there with you on the 30 Day Shred exercises. What I start a new level, it is tough! (Oh, but I do almost all of the moves holding weights…that is a sure way to increase the intensity and difficulty!!)
I made a “star chart” once for my food.
