“Falling” by The Antique Toys

This past January and February hold an incredibly special place in my heart. My band and I had our first coffee shop performance at Viento y Agua in Long Beach and we also ventured together to New Mexico to record with our favorite producer, Joey Belville (singer & producer of The Echoing Green and producer of Pristina).
We stopped at the Grand Canyon on our way …

Packing two guys and a chick into an SUV and driving for 800 miles straight sounds like it could be torturous, but it was one of the funnest times of my life. Of course, if you ask my band mates they’ll say I enjoyed the trip so much because, as the “band princess,” I did not have to drive. I stay firm in my position that that is not the case ;)

We ate vegan thai food together; we stopped in the middle of the night to play in the snow (and then ran back into our car at lightening speed when we heard an animal exhale); I pretended to sleep when the boys shared their secrets (buahah!); we took the Grand Canyon detour and did an impromptu photo shoot right at the edge of the canyon (daredevils!); we drank enough boba to last us a year; the guys put up with my incessant whinefests about my laryngitis; we played and sung our hearts out in the studio; and we came back knowing that we survived a road trip together and, bonus, still loved each other and felt even more steadfast in our belief that as a musical unit, this was our calling.

So, it’s been 8 months since that trip and our first track, “Falling,” is just now being released. We like to think that you can’t rush good things and hope you’ll agree that this track was worth the wait. Charley actually wrote the guitar and lyrics for this song. He is a master of the pen and there’s something about all of his songs that you just can’t find anywhere else. I’ve looked. Nope, nowhere. Charley also produced the cover art for the track…a couple days ago, in the span of a couple hours. Pro!

You can read the lyrics to the song here. You can download the track here. And you can view our collage of New Mexico photos here. But if you do one, none or some of those things, find solace in this line, as I do:

“I’m like you — always falling.”
