Love

Love is…

When your boyfriend knows that you’ve been feeling rather blue about missing your work outs. So, he fixes up your garage to give you space to workout from home when you can’t make it to the beach or gym.

He prints pictures that illustrate how to perform the moves, since he knows you have the memory capacity of a goldfish.

He overestimates how much you can lift and what you can do because he has so much blind faith in you (lmao).
Head stand, seriously? I laughed out loud when he performed one for me then looked at me expectantly like I’d just pop right up and do one. “Have you ever seen me do anything even remotely like a head stand,” I asked between giggles. He sighed and removed it from the program.

My plan now includes assisted pull ups and less weight for the weighted exercises than he had originally planed. Not gonna lie – sometimes I feel like a weakling compared to him, but we all gotta start from somewhere, right? And those pictures of toned half-naked girls don’t do much for my ego, but, again, we all start from somewhere.
He makes sure to remind me to “hydrate” and “sleep” by using pictures of me I thought he’d only use to black mail me.

Love is…

when you wear the “work-out outfit” he bought you…
Size xs booty shorts?Knee high socks?

when it’s clearly for his viewing pleasure.

My work-out plan lasts 16 weeks (wow!), and I’m supposed to increase weight each week for the weighted exercises and increase reps for the body weight exercises each week, as well.

All I have to say for now is that it’s been one week and my arms and legs hate me. But not as much as I hate deadlifts. I detest those suckers and have trouble with my form, so right now there are two purple bruises on each of my knees from banging the weights on them when I come up.

That said, I’m very excited because I’ve been wanting to get into cross-fit style exercises for a while and this will be a nice way to do that. You guys know that I am a cardio-princess – that’s my comfort zone and I run for both exercise and stress relief; but I’ve been needing to incorporate (and saying I would incorporate) weight and body training into my regime. So, here goes nothing!

My frou frou romance crap out of the way, I am so grateful that I have people in my life who encourage healthy behaviors, who help pick me up when I fall (which seems too often) and who know how to call me out on my B-S (i.e. I’m too stressed to work out; I don’t have time to work out anymore; woe is me wa wa wa!). Most of the time our worst enemy is (mis)perception of our self and of what we see as our limitations. Someone who cares enough to be like, “bitch, please” can be quite a gift. Albeit sometimes an annoying one.

Anyone out there doing a weight-lifting or body-weight program they want to share? Anyone else find it hard to transition from a cardio-centered routine to one that incorporates weights? If anyone wants more specifics on the routine I’ll be doing, holla’ and I’ll post it.

Bella, been using EA Sports Active 2 for my PS3 for about 3 months now and enjoy a cardio/weight resistance combo workout (also includes push ups!). They mix cardio with weight resistance for a really great overall workout. Jerry, my hubby, has now created about 4 custom workouts and even made one for my girlfriend and I to do together when she comes over on Wed and Fri mornings with lots of step aerobics and some weight resistance (she likes the dance-style workouts). I’ve noticed my arms really toning up now and have to thank this program for the boost. Now wearing 2lb gloves for many of the cardio portions to get a little extra weight resistance workout. You are so inspiring! Have now lost 32 lbs total!!

As of this week I’m restarting the Stronglifts 5×5 program. I did it for 8 weeks earlier this year and then got so incredibly busy that let it slide. Bad idea. So it’s back to the beginning for me!
