Yep, I totally ate it and I do not want seconds!

The beach is always super crowded on the weekend, so I often find myself having to weave in between crowds of people. In one such maneuver, my blades ended up touching and I flew to the ground. I remember my blades touching, but not the fall. I just remember opening my eyes to a crowd around me asking if I was okay and one person saying, “man, you fell hard!”

I could only muster, “my freakin’ arm!” (I’m such a delicate flower lol). I shooed the people away so I could focus on my injuries – just scraped hands and little scrapes on my knees, but I must have landed with everything on my elbow. I stretched for a while before blading back to my car, but knew something was up. When I tried to put my car into reverse, I yelped with pain from my right arm. I texted my boyfriend about what happened and told him I would ice it and nap it off. Upon trying to nap it off, I noticed my elbow looked really bulbous and I couldn’t straighten my arm, so I called my boyfriend to take me to the urgent care. Long story short, at 1st the doctor said it was a bruised bone and I nearly cried with gratitude. But after the x-rays, a different story. I have a hair-line fracture in my elbow, have to wear a sling and have to see an orthopedic specialist. oy.

I cried. This means no running, no zumba, no pull-ups, etc. And I’m right in the middle of my Comps 10 Challenge

But, my boyfriend, angel that he is, reminded me that there’s still tons I can do. Lunges, squats, walking at an incline and more (we’re going to compile a list tonight).

And the real plus?

When I weighed in at the urgent care, I told the nurse not to tell me my weight (I was worried it would upset me since I was in such a fragile position). Later, when we were alone, my boyfriend high-fived me and I knew what it meant, so I asked him to tell me. Apparently, I now weigh 135 lbs. That means I’ve lost nearly 7.6 pounds since I started working my ass off almost a month ago. I’m proud of myself and I’m not giving up on this quest to feel strong and lean. Yep, even if I want to just cry and lay in bed eating Trader Joe’s Baked Onion Rings with a side of vegan mochi. Which I do.

Hmm I think I meant “flash by you any day,” but saying I’d “flash you” is just plain fun (but so *not* true!)!

If you’ve seen my recent challenge updates, I’ve been rollerblading… a lot…

How does an avid runner who usually shuns other versions of cardio as “frou frou” bring herself to rollerblade?

Umm…it’s super fun, duh!
Photo by Mag3737 at Flickr here.

Why I Love Rollerblading

It makes me feel like I’m 10 again or like some 70s disco skater

I get to whiz by all the runners who are huffin’ and puffin’ their little hearts out. “See ya later!” I shout while flashing a devious grin (ok, so I don’t really do that, but it sounds like fun)

It’s easy on my knees. All the running I do means my little knees need a little break here and there.

I feel like a tourist. I blade at the beach w/ the boyf who rides his beach cruiser. We get to see our beautiful beach city and the little restaurants and shops that we take for granted having lived here for so long.

I avoid cat callers. You know when you’re running on the beach and, though you feel like youre hauling a**, you’re certainly not running fast enough to avoid gawkers and pervs? Well I’m just a blur to you now, pervs!

I get really odd tan lines that I find rather funny (and a good conversation piece). Am I the only one who finds that humorous?

It actually burns calories! Based on my weight, an hour of moderate rollerblading burns 410 calories says this site. It’s definitely less than an hour of running, but definitely more than an hour of yoga (and more than that Hip Hop Hustle class where I just giggled and looked for the bartender).

Give-Away Round-Up

It’s not too late to enter my give-away for Crispy Green freeze-dried fruit packs here.

Twirlit is giving away some gorgeous bags here. I’m all over it!

Soap and Chocolate is giving away Holey Donuts here. Ends tonight!

Fruit.Veggies.Life. is giving way loads of loot including energy bars here.

Hop, Skip & a Giant Leap is giving away Amazing Grass here.

Did You See?

Hungry Girl in the LA Times here and our own bloggie Danica is quoted!

That’s Fit post on top 5 most “eco-friendly” energy bars here. They put Amazing Grass’s “Chocolate Whole Foods” bar on the bottom of the list due to taste! Do you agree?

Any of you guys rollerblading this summer? Doing any less “conventional” forms of exercise? Experiencing pervs at the beach while running?

Happy Wednesday!
